Set the valuation date#
Confirm the warehouse you are valuing and the company's inventory account.
Read stock value#
- 1Open Reports and select Inventory Valuation.
- 2Choose a warehouse in Select warehouse, then click Search.
- 3Compare remaining layer quantities and costs with the total value.
- 4Open an unusual product or cost layer and compare it with its receipt and later stock movements.
- 5Run the inventory account in General Ledger at the same cutoff and compare the total.
Remaining layer quantity multiplied by unit cost contributes to the reported value. A later receipt or adjustment can change a different cutoff.
Reconcile cost layers#
The product's costing choice can be FIFO, FEFO, LIFO, or Average. Check that choice before comparing values; Standard costing is not offered in the product form.
WARNING: Reconcile transit, backdated movements and manual journals before concluding the valuation equals the GL.
Before changing accounts#
Finance should compare this value with the inventory account at the same date and in the company currency.
Trace the product and movement before changing a cost or posting a manual journal.
