Set ledger dates#
Have the account or document you want to trace ready.
Trace journal lines#
- 1Open Reports and select General Ledger.
- 2Use Filter by date and All Currencies, then click Search. Use the search box to narrow the visible entries.
- 3Note the account, date, and amount of an unusual line; trace it from Journal Entries or its source document.
- 4Open the source document for a suspicious journal line and compare its date, account, and amount with the business event.
- 5Check nearby reversal or correction entries before concluding that a line was duplicated.
The ledger contains posted entries. A draft document will not explain a posted balance until Finance completes its posting.
Follow the source#
Running balance and debit/credit signs depend on account and date order. Void/reversal history must be considered when reconciling.
WARNING: Do not delete or change posted source lines to force a report total.
Before correcting#
Follow a journal's source reference to the original invoice, bill, payment, or adjustment before making a correction.
Use a supported reversal or correction after you identify the source; do not edit a historical entry to make it disappear.
