Choose a valuation cutoff#

Choose a variant/warehouse and use matching as-of dates and base valuation currency when comparing inventory with the GL.

Read quantities and cost layers#

  1. 1
Open Inventory Valuation and choose the same date and warehouse scope you will use for reconciliation.
  2. 2
Review the variant's costing method and each remaining cost layer.
  3. 3
Multiply each layer's remaining quantity by its unit cost, then compare the total with the report.
  4. 4
Trace an unexpected layer to the receipt that created it and any later issues that consumed it.
  5. 5
Compare the valuation total with General Ledger at the same date and company scope.

The reported value depends on remaining quantity and assigned cost, not the current sales price.

Reconcile value to the ledger#

Receipts add or update cost layers; issues consume cost according to the configured method. Transfer settlement preserves cost through transit and destination/return paths.

WARNING: Do not interpret a report total as reconciled automatically. Investigate date, in-transit, manual journal, quantity and currency differences before adjusting the ledger.

If the values differ#

Confirm that the report and ledger use the same date and company currency, then trace any difference to a receipt, issue, or transfer.

If valuation and ledger differ, check timing, warehouse scope, and unposted corrections before entering a manual journal.

Behind the Scenes: Accounting & GL Impact#

Compare the inventory valuation at the same date and company scope as the Inventory Asset ledger balance. Each remaining cost layer contributes its remaining quantity multiplied by its unit cost; the product's configured costing method controls how costs are assigned. Trace differences through receipts, shipments, returns, write-offs, and adjustments before changing an account mapping.
