Inter-Warehouse Stock Transfers
Two-step fulfillment (Ship & Receive) for moving stock between warehouse facilities with in-transit tracking, source reservation, and lot/serial relocation.

Check source and destination stock#
You need stock transfers in your plan and the “Transfer stock between warehouses” permission. Choose different source and destination warehouses, then enter the quantity you want to move. To move a serialized unit, select its serial number and enter one unit.
Ship a transfer between warehouses#
- 1Open Stock Transfers and create a transfer for one product variant between different warehouses.
- 2Select the source and destination locations and the quantity. For a serialized unit, select that one serial.
- 3At dispatch, retain the transfer reference with the physical shipment so the destination can identify it.
- 4Ship the transfer when the goods leave the source warehouse.
- 5At the destination, count the goods and receive the transfer. If it will not arrive, use the supported cancellation action and verify where the goods were returned.
- 6After receipt, compare source and destination balances and verify the transfer status.
A transfer in transit is stock under custody, but it is not available to pick at the destination until received.
Receive or cancel the transfer#
A pending transfer sets aside stock at the source. After shipping, the goods are in transit and are not yet available at the destination. Receiving adds them there. Canceling a pending transfer frees the reservation; canceling one already in transit records the goods' return to the source.
WARNING: Shipping and in-transit cancellation affect stock and cost layers. Confirm physical custody and frozen cost allocations before those actions.
If the transfer is refused#
Check source availability, different source and destination warehouses, and the selected serial or lot.
If the destination count differs, investigate the cartons and serial labels before confirming the receipt.
Behind the Scenes: Accounting & GL Impact#
When stock leaves the source warehouse, the posting debits the configured Inventory in Transit account and credits Inventory Asset. On receipt at the destination, it debits Inventory Asset and credits Inventory in Transit. The transfer is not a sale or an expense. An in-transit balance at close needs a physical shipment and receipt review.
