Warehouse Locations, Zones & Bins

Structure warehouse storage topology into zones, aisles, racks, shelves, and bins with dedicated functional areas (receiving dock, bulk storage, pick face, quarantine).

Plan the physical storage layout#

Create a branch and warehouse first. Zones, shelves and bins require the bin-locations feature and the corresponding warehouse-management permission.

Create zones, shelves, and bins#

  1. 1
Open Warehouses and select the warehouse you are organizing.
  2. 2
Add a zone, then add shelves within that zone and bins within each shelf.
  3. 3
Check that each bin is active and physically labeled before selecting it during receiving or a count.
  4. 4
Walk the warehouse and confirm the new bin name and parent location match the shelf labels.
  5. 5
Open the stock view for a product stored there and confirm staff can distinguish that bin from nearby locations.

A clear bin path reduces wrong picks and makes cycle counts repeatable.

Check each bin's warehouse#

A bin sits on a shelf in one warehouse zone. KariVast will not accept a receipt, transfer, or count in a bin that belongs to another warehouse.

WARNING: Do not deactivate or repurpose an occupied location before its stock is moved and reconciled.

If a location is unavailable#

Check that the zone, shelf, and bin belong to the selected warehouse and are active.

If an existing bin cannot be removed, check whether it still holds stock or appears in an active movement.
