General Journal Entries
Create multi-line manual journal entries with strict debit-equals-credit enforcement, period validation, and bidirectional audit linkage to operational source documents.

Get the accounts and date ready#
Your role needs “View journal entries” to inspect entries, “Manage journal entries” to create or edit drafts, and “Post and void journal entries” to post, reverse or void. Accounting tools must be available.
Create and post a journal#
- 1Open Accounting → Journal Entries and create a draft with an entry date, description and account lines.
- 2Choose posting accounts and enter debit or credit amounts. Preview the journal and confirm total debits equal total credits.
- 3Review the proposed debits and credits against the supporting document, not only against each other.
- 4Post only when the entry date is in an open accounting period. For a correction, use the supported reverse or void action and record the reason rather than changing a posted entry.
- 5After posting, open the journal in General Ledger and check its date, description, and account lines.
A balanced journal can still be wrong when it uses the wrong period or account.
Find the posted entry#
Posting creates a protected journal entry. Reverse and void are separate actions; inspect the resulting linked entries and audit history before reconciling.
WARNING: Posting, reversing and voiding change reported balances. Confirm the period, accounts, currency and totals first.
When the journal will not post#
A blocked post can indicate unbalanced lines, an unavailable posting account, or a non-open period.
If posting fails, inspect the period state and the account's active status before trying again.
