Importing Categories via CSV

Create the parent categories that your file will refer to before importing child categories.

   Open CSV Import, choose Categories, and download the template.

   Fill in **Category name**, optional Parent category name, and Description. Keep the template headers unchanged.

   Choose Create only or Create or update, select Validate, and fix any parent-name errors.

   Import and open the category list.

   Open several imported categories and compare their names with the source file.

   Check one product that uses a newly imported category.

A spelling variation can create a separate category and scatter reporting.

Check that each child appears under the intended parent; a misspelled parent does not get created automatically.

WARNING: A misspelled Parent category name does not create a new parent; the row fails.
